MY HOMELESS COUNTRY speaks directly to the sense of loss felt by many of the artists who have been dispossessed from their traditional lands and left without a home.

Using a cheap nylon moving or storage bag, artist Reinhold Inkamala paints a vibrant landscape on one side, and words of urgent protest on the other. The cheap nylon bag, commonly associated with migrant and homeless populations, is a symbol of displacement and hardship. Inkamala’s muted pastel landscape is punctuated by two red-tailed black cockatoos flying across sky. Reinhold frequently illustrates birds in his landscapes, creating a sense of life and narrative as they traverse Tjuritja (West MacDonnell Ranges).
